It’s starting to get a lot like fighting in his living room.
Omar Figueroa Jr. will have two people cheering him on after their undercard fights are done on May 9: Austin Trout, and Figureoa's brother, Brandon, who will be making his professional debut.
Omar Figueroa Jr. was already set to take on Ricky Burns on March 9 in Hidalgo, Texas, about half an hour from his native town of Weslaco. Then, his friend Austin Trout was added to the undercard. Now? Figueroa’s 18-year-old brother, Brandon, will be making his pro debut on the card, too, in a four-round bout against Hector Gutierrez.
The Figueroas just need their mother to do the locker room catering to really sew up all the comforts of home.
Brandon Figueroa has put together more than 40 fights as an amateur. He’s also spent plenty of time in the ring with Omar, who spars with his younger sibling.

“It’s mainly about having him mentally prepared for the changes that comes with turning pro,” Omar Figueroa said. “Boxing is his job now. It’s not a game anymore. I just want him to understand what I didn’t when I first started.”
If both fighters take care of business on May 9, they’ll get to walk out of State Farm Arena as something new—the undefeated professional Figueroa brothers.
