The legendary trainer of WBC World Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo says his fighter, an undefeated two division titlist, is better than ever as he breaks down Charlo's title defense versus Juan Montiel Saturday night on PBC on SHOWTIME.
Legendary trainer Ronnie Shields joins The PBC Podcast this week to discuss the evolution of his fighter, unbeaten WBC World Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo, and breaks down the two-division champ's title defense against hard-hitting Juan Macias Montiel Saturday night on PBC on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).
It's a homecoming title defense for Charlo at Toyota Center in his native Houston--and for Shields, who operates the Plex Boxing Gym in Stafford and is a staple of the Texas boxing scene. Born in Port Author, Shields, 63, was an amateur boxing standout and a two-time world title challenger as a professional. After retiring in 1988, he quickly established himself as one of the game's elite trainers and has worked with Evander Holyfield, Pernell Whitaker and now Charlo, one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport today. Shields also updates us on the progress of cruiserweight contender Efetobor Apochi, who battles fellow unbeaten Brandon Glanton Sunday, June 27, on FOX PBC Fight Night (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).
Plus, hosts Kenneth Bouhairie and Michael Rosenthal analyze Tuesday's Fury-Wilder 3 press conference and go Toe to Toe over the the most successful former US Olympians fighting today.
