World champions help out their local communities with turkey giveaways.
It was a week of giving thanks and giving back for current and former world champions Andre Berto, Anthony Dirrell, Gervonta Davis and Abner Mares—who all participated in Thanksgiving turkey drives within their local communities this week.
Berto hosts annual Turkey Bowl in Florida
Former welterweight world champion Andre Berto hosted his annual Turkey Bowl Weekend in Winterhaven Florida. In addition to a 200-turkey giveaway on November 23, Berto’s events include a bowling bash and celebrity flag football game pitting Berto’s team against former NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady’s squad.
Dirrell helps out his hometown
After providing his fans in Flint, Michigan with a victory against Denis Douglin on PBC on FS1 on November 17—Anthony Dirrell’s first fight in his hometown since 2011—the former 168-pound champion provided even more goodwill with a turkey drop sponsored by his Dirrell’s Chance Foundation on November 21.
Davis gives back in Baltimore
Former 130-pound champion Gervonta Davis participated in not one, but two turkey drives this week in Baltimore as he joined Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank in the company’s annual turkey giveaway on November 21. “Tank” then held his own turkey giveaway the next day at his home gym, Upton Boxing Center.
Mares lends a helping hand in LA
Los Angeles’ four-time titleholder and current 126-pound world champion Abner Mares hosted his fifth annual turkey drive November 19 in connection with The Salvation Army and Ringstar Sports at The Salvation Army’s Bob and Tilly Sinnet L.A. Red Shield Community Center.
