When an earthquake ravaged Haiti in 2010, Andre Berto sprung into action. He spent weeks helping relief efforts immediately after the disaster—withdrawing from a big-ticket fight against Shane Mosley in the process.
Through his Berto Dynasty Foundation, the Florida native, whose parents were born in Haiti, has helped rebuild orphanages and constructed more than 15 freshwater wells. For those efforts Berto was honored March 27 in New York by Haiti Cherie, an annual benefit that recognizes those who have been active in philanthropic efforts for the country.
Since its inception, the Berto Dynasty Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help improve Haiti. He made his most recent trip to the country in November, before he started camp in preparation for his March 13 fight against Josesito Lopez, which Berto won by a sixth-round knockout.
